Frequently Asked Questions
With over 27 years of clinical practice, and graduating from the prestigious Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Dr. Leering is one of the most experienced practitioners in North Vancouver.
He integrates clinical presentation with posture analysis and uses a series of motor and neural testing to narrow down what areas to treat to look at all the components that require care. This allows him to offer a head-to-toe assessment to efficiently and effectively determine the best course of care for your concerns.
Third, he offers a combination of skills and tools tailored to your care, including proficiency in two different adjusting instruments (Activator and Impulse tools) with hands-on techniques.
Finally, Dr. Leering also offers experienced orthotic assessment and dispensing through this practice. Learn more about both of these through this FAQ and by visiting our Treatments & Services and Chiropractic Methods pages on this site.
We welcome you to return for care at any time.
There is a charge to return after a lapse in care as the doctor must spend some extra time with you to properly assess your complaint:
Please carefully complete any provided forms as they make more efficient use of the doctor’s time and inform our clinical decision-making. Withholding relevant medical information can have an impact on the safety of the care we provide. Certainly, any changes in health should be shared by you. Again, this is for your own best interests and incumbent on the Doctor taking on and providing responsible care.
Your overall health and safety is our priority and we need to be able to have the appropriate time to listen and explore what is happening with you.
Any change, whether it’s a fall/ car accident, new medical diagnosis, or new or change of medication, requires proper disclosures and consideration. Please ensure we have time to cover your health care appropriately.

We do ask that you treat our staff with kindness and respect if we cannot offer you your desired preferences. The staff will call you directly when an appointment time opens up.
In April 2023, Dr. Vincent Leering joined Marine Drive Chiropractic after being recruited by Dr. Alderson.

He has also opened limited early morning, early evening and Saturday availability by appointment only for current patients.

A proper supportive foot to correct for overall mechanics or to balance your mechanics can aid in your ongoing recovery.
Dr. Leering has over 25 years of experience and ongoing training to accurately determine and prescribe the best orthotics for your case. Naturally, because this is custom fitting, it isn’t refundable, but the doctor will work with you to make sure orthotics are appropriate for you before ordering. Because of the extensive experience in orthotic prescriptions, Dr. Leering is happy to share that less than 5% of our prescriptions require any adjustments afterwards.
Orthotic process:
- Book an orthotic assessment in the Marine Drive Chiropractic calendar with Dr. Leering.
- At your appointment, Dr. Leering will examine you and use a computer mat called Gait Scan that is connected to a laptop which you will walk across and then stand with both feet.
- The computer scans your feet sixty times a second to get your specific touch pattern of your foot.
- The computer will analyse the timing of pressure and compare it to other areas of your foot and compare to where you should be to then put together the math on the curve that would be most appropriate in your care.
- Dr. Leering will tailor your orthotic with topcover selection material & length, the rigidity/ flexibility we should create and any other requirements that may be needed in your specific case.
- We then email your order to a lab and then it will be made to specification and shipped back to us, which we will then dispense to you at a final appointment time.
In some very specific cases we will decline to build for you if your case is highly specialized and requires advanced modifying.
Shockwave is a premium, standalone treatment intervention meant to address acute or chronic soft tissue injury. This includes conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, jumper’s knee, Osgood Schlatter’s Disease, Sever’s Disease, golfer’s or tennis elbow, rotator cuff tendonitis and stress fractures. The therapy works by traumatizing the affected structure in a very controlled way to wake up your body’s acute healing response, which is robust, rather than letting it fester in the chronic healing response. This is why the use of Shockwave appeals to us as Chiropractors.
Generally, we need to do a short evaluation and work up, and then discuss if it’s an appropriate intervention to use in your case. We will share what you need to do for yourself to get the most out of the care. Then we will book a treatment session for you. The price point reflects the time we spend with you and the use of this very advanced technology. Please call our administrative staff to book yourself correctly in our schedule. Dr. Leering is very experienced in the use of Shockwave Therapy and will guide you appropriately.
Call us to book your first appointment with Dr. Leering. He will provide a thorough assessment and care plan. After that, you can use our convenient online booking portal to schedule follow up care as needed, at your convenience.
With your claim number from ICBC, we can direct bill for your injuries. ICBC will cover up to 25 visits in the 12 weeks following the accident including your initial longer consultation. ICBC structures it this way so that you initiate care very quickly as you will have a better and quicker outcome than delaying seeking care.
Should you require additional care, there are mechanisms in place to request extensions. When we start you off with care following an accident, we do require a longer first visit to cover the particulars of the accident and to work up each of the areas giving you problems.
Effective April 1, 2024, ICBC will cover $112 for your first visit and $61 for subsequent visits, which results in us asking you for a copayment as well, which is $8 for your first visit and $4 for subsequent visits. Our capable administration staff will be happy to work with you to organize your appointments and billing.
Based on a few criteria (increasing age, being female, and overall health picture) you are more likely to have significant osteoporosis which puts you at risk of fracture.
Having only 1-2% change in your bone density can push you into a higher-risk category when we already know you may have reduced bone density.
The doctor will exercise their best clinical judgement in recommending you to receive only instrument adjusting and not a hands-on push to mitigate against any potential adverse clinical outcome. We understand that you may have preferences, but we are looking out for your own best interests and that has to be considered.
Furthermore, you are not receiving any lesser treatment! There are plenty of big, strong, healthy people who choose to have only instrument adjusting as they prefer it for the results. Again, one area of our expertise is in the skilled use of two different instrument techniques. We hope you can acknowledge in yourself the changing seasons of your health and welcome receiving the best possible, safest recommended care from experienced clinicians.
Your health record is very important and being abreast of your current medications and itemized medical conditions is helpful. Having a renewed consent form is appropriate as you should be familiar with any risks with any care you receive. We should do this periodically and you have the opportunity to ask questions. This is not a release or waiver. Regulated healthcare providers cannot have you sign off on liability. However, it is your responsibility to keep informed of your health status and be complete with your disclosures.
Often when the chiropractor pushes on the joint you will hear and feel a pop or crack – the degree of which can vary in many different circumstances. And a big, little, or no pop or crack doesn’t imply anything either. Furthermore, it doesn’t correspond to the degree the joint is locked or the amount of force that was used to move it. It’s a nice reinforcement at best, but oftentimes, the joint movement is restored without any sound effects. Evidence to this is the positive effects of using instrument adjusting which in almost all cases does not release a pop or crack and yet restores the motion.
In this office, we rely on retesting the motor/ neural reflex loop corresponding to the level of the spine we are working on to ensure that the correction has indeed reset the motor/ neural function, at least temporarily.
